By admin • Nov 21st, 2008 • Category: HistoryThe seeds of success for the current all conquering senior team were sown in the under 14 all ireland feile na ngael tournament between 1998 and 2001 where the Harps reached 4 finals in a row, winning 2 and losing 2, and were very unlucky not to win the ultimate division 1 crown in the last year.

“A decade ago, in 1998, The Harps were crowned Feile na nGael Division 3 champions after they defeated Glynn Barntown of Wexford. It was a very impressive display from the young Laois ladies and it was the beginning of something special for The Harps.
In 1999 they again carried Laois’ hopes, this time in Division 2, and they were unfortunate to lose the final to Ballyboden St Enda’s.
This loss served to strengthen the resolve of The Harps and they bounced back in 2000 and playing an immensely sweet tune they overcame Templemore of Tipperary to win the Division 2 title in Corrigan Park, Belfast. The Harps won a cracking final by 5-2 to 4-1 and there were great scenes of jubilation as they were presented with the Caitlin Ni Thoimin Shield.
The Harps stepped up to rub shoulders with the top camogie clubs of the country at Feile na nGael 2001 in Cork and they reached the Division 1 final only to succumb to the all-conquering Oulartthe-Ballagh of Wexford by 4-3 to 3-4.”
